BEACH SHACK, CLAMS AND CHEERLEADERS

Beach Shack Kicks-Off Summer with 2nd Annual Clam-A-Rama
Special Guests Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders and Mascot SWOOP
The Clamshell Pitching Tournament, followed by a Clam Bake at the Rusty Nail, is sure to cook up just the right recipe for summer fun in Cape May

CAPE MAY, NJ (April 15, 2013) – On May 11th, welcome summer with a day of clams and competition in Cape May as the Beach Shack celebrates the long and storied game! Clamshell Pitching, a classic Jersey Shore activity, comes to the Beach Shack and will be followed by clam dishes and drink specials at the Rusty Nail. Clamshell Pitching Expert, Joe McGettigan of Clam Drain, will provide everyone with tips and custom Beach Shack clams as the Philadelphia Eagles Cheerleaders and SWOOP, the Eagles Mascot, cheer on the clam pitchers.

Historians believe clamshell pitching began along the shores of South Jersey in the early 1900s. In simpler times, when resources were limited, creativity with natural resources provided free entertainment. The earliest known official clamshell pitching in Cape May is believed to have been among lifeguards in the early 1930s.

Fast forward to present day! Clam-A-Rama will begin with the Clamshell Pitching Tournament from 1 pm to 4 pm at the beach in front of the Beach Shack. The tournament will consist of a Round Robin phase and a Single Elimination Round. Clamshell pitching is similar to a combination of corn hole and horseshoes. The Beach Shack team will offer lessons to show how it’s done from 12 p.m.-1 p.m.

The winning team will be awarded the grand prize–1st place medals, two $100 gift cards to use at Rusty Nail or Beach Shack and bragging rights for the year! The $25 tournament registration fee includes an official Clam Pitching Tournament t-shirt and a Rusty Nail breakfast sandwich. Participants should arrive between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. to sign-up and enjoy breakfast. Registration closes at 11.

Following the tournament, the Rusty Nail will host a Clam Bake with live music beginning at 3:30 p.m. from Wesley Ochs, a prominent vocalist and guitarist from the South Jersey shore. Wesley brings his infectious energy to the Nail, singing Classic Rock ballads, Alternative & Modern Rock, Oldies, Country and Party Favorites while playing acoustic guitar and creating the perfect mix for all. Once the sun goes down, The Shots will take the stage at The Nail. The Shots feature a unique blend of instrumentation, arrangements, presentation and musical styles. They believe in keeping their audience entertained and provide a great party vibe! All night at the Rusty Nail there will be drink specials, the coldest beer and, of course, the best clams in Cape May.

In honor of the Clam-A-Rama, the Beach Shack will offer the Clam Digger package all summer. The Clam Digger consists of accommodations at the Beach Shack, a bucket of Rusty Nail clams, 4 beers in a souvenir Rusty Nail bucket, and a custom Beach Shack clam pitching set.
