Author from projects to share impact
of writing on his life
Youth ages 11 to 17 are invited to the Atlantic City
Free Public Library’s Meet the Author program — featuring urban fiction writer
Torrey Maldonado — at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23.
He wrote Secret Saturdays, which was selected in
2011 as an American Library Association Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult
Readers. His book has also been featured on ABC, NBC, and CNN.
Youth who want to discuss the book before Maldonado’s
arrival can do so at 1 p.m. that day.
Maldonado grew up in the Red Hook projects in Brooklyn,
where he now teaches in the public school system. The book is inspired by his
experiences with city schools, fatherlessness and poverty.
Maldonado will share the story of how writing saved his
life and helped distract him from the rough realities surrounding him.
